Thank you to all of you who supported our most recent Care Package Project Pack Day. Because of all of our generous donors and volunteers, we were able to ship a record 1,285 care packages to Marines in Afghanistan on August 28th!
64 volunteers showed up at our warehouse Saturday morning and together we packed almost 1300 boxes in under four hours. It was quite an accomplishment! Not only did we send a package to every Marine in our database, but we also raised money for future projects.
In addition to packing boxes, volunteers were able to do a little shopping while they were here. We had discounted items for sale as well as our Red Friday T-shirts, which are worn every Friday to show support for troops overseas. We also sold Gold Star Mother’s Day Luminary kits to be put together and displayed on September 26th for Gold Star Mother’s Day. From these sales we raised $415!
We also raffled off three $50 dollar gift cards to our EGA Store and raised $465 from the ticket sales.
Needless to say our warehouse is very empty after shipping 1300 packages, and with the cold weather approaching we need to start collecting winter items such as Chapstick, gloves, beanies (hats or skull caps) thermal wear/long johns, wool socks, hand and feet warmers and sunglasses.
Our next Care Package Project Packing Day is November 6th. Volunteer Registration will begin three weeks prior to that date, so visit our website then to sign up to help us pack boxes!
We also need more people to consider holding care package drives in their home towns. These drives help us collect the items we need to ship in the care packages. For more information on holding a drive, contact Kelly at (573) 330-5500 x310 or email her at Kelly@MarineParents.com.
